The Church of St. Wenceslas is a protected cultural monument in Horní Kruty and is considered one of the significant examples of Baroque architecture in the Kolín region. The Baroque church, dating from the 18th century, stands at the highest point of Hornokrutsko, 410 metres above sea level; it is a prominent landmark of the municipality of Horní Kruty.
Landscape
Hornokrutsko, which includes Horní Kruty, is a hilly and heavily forested area in the southwest of the Kolín District.
Culture and History
The foundation stone of the present Church of St. Wenceslas in Horní Kruty was laid on 28 July 1740; the new church was consecrated on 6 October 1743. The Chapel of St. Gothard in Horní Kruty was consecrated on the same day together with the church.
The building of the former Kampelička in Horní Kruty was constructed in 1931. A memorial plaque on the building commemorates the victims of Nazism. The family of MUDr. Hugo Teller was deported from there during the Second World War and subsequently murdered in concentration camps.
The water tower of Horní Kruty is a prominent structure in the middle of the village green. It was completed in 1927 together with the water supply system and the electrification of the municipality. The basic structure of the present-day primary school building in Horní Kruty was built in 1849; the building acquired its current form through the addition of a new north wing in 1886.
The Sokolovna in Horní Kruty was built through voluntary labour, donated building materials, and contributions from the local population and surrounding municipalities.
Events and Cycling
Children up to the age of 15 may participate in the children's fishing competitions on 29 August 2026 at the pond in Horní Kruty, accompanied by an adult and using their own fishing rod.
Hornokrutská 40 was a public cycling race with a 40 km course that could be completed on a mountain bike or cross bike. The tenth and final documented edition took place on 10 August 2019.
Transport
PID bus route 821 runs along the Kolín–Svojšice–Kouřim–Sázava route via Horní Kruty and also serves stops in Dolní Kruty and Přestavlky.
