Kbel: Local History and Surrounding Landscape

A cast-iron wayside cross on a sandstone pedestal was erected in 1874 at the expense of local settlers. It was consecrated on 15 August of the same year. The combination of durable metal, a stone pedestal, local funding and a fixed consecration date gives this historical testimony a clearly defined character. At the same time, the funding points to the involvement of the settlers of that period in shaping the public appearance of the village.

The Czech painter Václav Radimský is buried in the cemetery by the church in Kbel. He is considered an important representative of Impressionism. Thus, alongside the wayside cross, a named individual is also part of the history of the place. The cemetery by the church and Radimský's artistic classification provide the specific context for this memorial site, without equating it with a present-day exhibition or museum building.

The former château of Kbel was demolished in 1983 because of its dilapidated condition. It should therefore be understood as part of the village's earlier history, not as a château that still exists today. In Kbel, surviving and vanished testimonies thus stand side by side: a consecrated wayside cross, a burial site connected with art history and the memory of a former château.

In the wider regional surroundings of Kbel lies Zámek Kačina. Mount Hořánck is also located there. Both names extend the view beyond the immediate area of the village and place Kbel within a larger landscape with named historical and natural points of reference.

In the immediate surroundings of Kbel are Skála Hill [Kbel u Ratboře], Chlumeček Hill [Kořenice] and Chlum Hill. The additions in square brackets form part of the respective names and distinguish Skála and Chlumeček from landscape features with the same or similar names. The three hills therefore form a separate group within the immediate surroundings.

Road III/12548 Lošánky–Kbel runs through the area of Kbel; it joins Road II/125. This connection specifies both the route between Lošánky and Kbel and the road classification and junction with the higher-level road.
