Kostelec Nad Labem: Hotels and Accommodation

Kostelec nad Labem is a former royal town of medieval origin, situated at a ford across the Elbe; its historic part has been designated a heritage zone.

Culture and History

The Church of St. Martin is believed to have been built in the second half of the 13th century. It was subsequently rebuilt in the Late Gothic style and given a Baroque makeover, restored in 1894, and retains Gothic elements. The church is a cemetery church that originally served as a parish church.

The Jewish cemetery was established in 1594 on the eastern bank of the Martinský Stream in the suburb of Písek. It preserves numerous gravestones of significant artistic and historical value, including many from the last quarter of the 19th century.

The Church of St. Vitus is a three-aisled Gothic church with a polygonal presbytery and was rebuilt in the Renaissance style in the 16th century.

Nature

The Polabí u Kostelce Nature Monument is an exceptionally well-preserved river floodplain with a characteristic mosaic structure of floodplain forests, meadows, bodies of water, and wetlands, as well as numerous rare plant and animal species. In the northern part of the area of Kostelec nad Labem, Staré Labe has the character of a floodplain forest.

Things to Do

A modernized, ten-kilometre section of the Labská stezka runs between Kostelec nad Labem and Tuhaň and can be used by cyclists and pedestrians on a paved asphalt path. The Městský informační okruh is a short educational trail presenting the history of Kostelec nad Labem and includes six stations with information panels.
