Jiřice: Hotels and Accommodations
In Jiřice stands the stone bell tower. It bears the year 1818, is a protected cultural heritage structure, and is one of the few surviving buildings of the original settlement.
Culture and History
The first written mention of Jiřice dates from 1479. A map from 1720 depicts Jiřice as a small village surrounded by forests. During the German occupation from 1940 to 1945, Jiřice was forcibly depopulated, practically destroyed, and rebuilt after the war. The municipality has a memorial commemorating the forced depopulation of 1940–1945.
The historic village setting also includes the monuments on the village square: a stone cross and a Božà muka, a Czech wayside shrine. The war memorial to those who fell in the First World War was ceremonially reopened in September 2023 after its renovation. The parents of Josef Bašus lived at Jiřice No. 6.
Landscape and Nature
Approximately half of the municipality of Jiřice consists of mixed forests. The other half consists of intensively farmed agricultural land with scattered greenery.
The Mladá protected area covers parts of the cadastral territories of Jiřice and Milovice nad Labem. In these cadastral territories, it protects, among other things, grassland and shrub ecosystems.
