Káraný: Hotels and Accommodation

Káraný lies at the confluence of the Elbe and Jizera rivers. Around the town, cycling and educational trails, the river landscape, and the history of water management come together.

Cycling and Educational Trails

Cycle route 0041 Káraný–Kochánky passes through Káraný and runs via Sojovice and Předměřice to Kochánky. The pedestrian and cycle bridge to Toušeň carries the pedestrian and cycle connection as well as a medium-pressure gas pipeline across the Elbe, approximately 500 metres upstream from the confluence of the Jizera and Elbe rivers.

Káraný is a gateway to the Císařské lesy forests. Unpaved forest paths lead from Káraný to Zelená bouda. The Jizera Greenway passes through Káraný on its way back to the Elbe near Lázně Toušeň.

Grado is a former side arm of the Elbe. The “Naučná stezka Údolím Labe” educational trail connects Lysá nad Labem, Káraný, and Čelákovice, is 21 km long, and along the described route passes Grado and a pedestrian bridge over the Elbe. The educational trail has 24 stations with information boards.

Nature

Lipovka is a remnant of the original floodplain forest along the Elbe. Václavka is a state nature reserve. The area around Káraný is also home to the open-air forest chapel “U svatého Václava”, which dates from around 1696 and belonged to one of three natural hermitages located close to one another.

Water and Fishing

In the vicinity of Káraný, the Jizera 1 fishing grounds extend from the river’s mouth into the Elbe near Toušeň to the weir of the Kačov power station; fishing from a boat is permitted.

Culture and Waterworks

The Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk was built in 1907 in Václavská Street, in the centre of the original village. The Káraný waterworks complex officially began operating on 1 January 1914. After becoming operational, the Káraný waterworks supplied Prague with 880 litres of drinking water per second from the region.
