Masojedy: Hotels and Accommodation

Masojedy was founded at the beginning of the 14th century amid the Černokostelecké Forests.

History

The earliest written mention of Masojedy dates from January 25, 1342. Throughout the second half of the 14th century, Masojedy belonged to the Skalický Monastery.

Chapel and Remembrance

The chapel in Masojedy dates from the end of the 19th century or around the turn of the 20th century. It stands on the site of a former bell tower in the shape of a broad-crowned lime tree with a bell, documented by cadastral maps from 1841.

On the occasion of the celebration of the municipality's 666th anniversary, the chapel was painted and restored under the direction of Josef Vitovský from Hradešín.

Near the chapel stands a granite monument to the citizens of Masojedy who fell in the First World War. It was erected in 1919 at the expense of the citizens of Masojedy; its lower inscription reads “1914–1919”.

Landscape and Surroundings

Near Masojedy are the ruins of Šember Castle, which are considered an important archaeological site and provide evidence of earlier settlement. Cycle route 0089 also runs near Masojedy.

The surviving remains of Šember Castle include walled-up wall remnants on the eastern side, depressions indicating cellars, building wall remnants made of medieval masonry, the area of a half-timbered palace, and fortifications.
