Culture and History

In the centre of Mukařov, the protected complex of Kostel sv. Vavřince stands on a triangular village square. It comprises the church, a bell tower, a cemetery, an enclosing wall and the associated protected plots of land.

Mukařov was first mentioned in writing in 1352. The nave of Kostel sv. Vavřince dates from the early 18th century and displays Baroque features. It was restored after a fire on 28 June 1866. The Gothic chancel dates from the 14th century and is one of the oldest in the wider surrounding area.

Kostel sv. Vavřince is designated as an immovable cultural monument in the cadastral area of Mukařov. Mukařov-intravilán is registered as a Category ÚAN II archaeological area and covers the period from the Middle Ages to the modern era. In addition, a timber-framed cottage is designated as an architecturally valuable building in the cadastral area. The origins of Mukařov are connected with colonisation carried out by a nearby Cistercian monastery.
