Vlkava’s history dates back to its first mention in 1046. The Baroque chateau in Vlkava was built in 1736.

Culture and History

On September 28, 2024, a reconstructed wayside shrine with an image of Jesus Christ was unveiled in Vlkava. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk in Vlkava was blessed on November 20, 2021. Both pale and dark beer were brewed in Vlkava’s historic brewery.

Nature

Vlkavský rybník is located immediately west of Vlkava. It has a water surface area of 20 ha and a retention capacity of 320,000 m³; it is used for fish farming. A protected pedunculate oak (Quercus robur L.) stands at the western end of Vlkavský rybník. The height of this oak is given as 23 m and its trunk circumference as 545 cm; however, the stated height is considered significantly exaggerated.

The hills Hlavnov [Vlkava], Na Vrchu [Smilovice u Luštěnic], (Tuzarovsko) [Loučeň-Patřín] and Vrchy [Krchleby u Nymburka] are located in the immediate vicinity of Vlkava.

Geographical Location

Between Čachovice, Vlkava and Patřín, the Taxis cycle path follows the route of a former sugar railway. A red-marked hiking trail runs along the edge through Vlkava and leads from Milovice via Všejany, Loučeň, Jabkenice and Staré Hrady to Mladějov. Čachovice railway station is 1.5 km from the center of Vlkava and is located in the cadastral area of the municipality of Čachovice.
