Culture and History

The late Classicist Niměřice Château was built by Jan Weithof in 1832. It is an L-shaped, two-winged building with a roof bell tower and a clock. A fortress once stood on the site of today’s château.

The first written mention of Niměřice dates back to 1354. At that time, there was a farmstead there belonging to Adam of Niměřice. In the summer of 1862, Bedřich Smetana stayed at Niměřice Château with his wife.

The listed château grounds include an extensive English park enclosed by a perimeter wall with gates. Niměřice Château is privately owned and well maintained. The grounds open their gates only for events such as weddings, celebrations, or conferences.

Chapel

Opposite the château gate stands the pseudo-Romanesque chapel “Kaple Korunování Panny Marie” from 1864. It preserves an original entrance bearing the year 1812. Remains of paintings have survived above the entrance portal and inside.

Nature and Trails

Niměřice lies on the banks of the Strenický potok. The surrounding area features lowland forests suitable for recreation.

Cycling routes 8157 and 143 run in the vicinity of Niměřice. From Niměřice, there is also a regularly maintained path along the trackbed of a disused railway line to the outskirts of Dolní Cetno.
