Obruby lies on road I/16 toward Jičín and is connected to the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Český ráj). It was designated the Czech Republic’s first protected landscape area on 1 March 1955. Part of Obruby lies within the so-called affected area of the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area.
Culture and History
House No. 25 in Obruby is a listed building. Based on archaeological finds, prehistoric settlement in Obruby is attributed to the Celts. Local traditions also include Easter rattling: from Maundy Thursday to Holy Saturday, children walk through the village rattling wooden rattles.
Nature and Landscape
There are springs in the Pteč grove, and the Pteč stream flows through it. A small marsh meadow lies along the stream, where the protected yellow-flowering plant European globeflowers was once common. There are also springs in the nearby forests.
Events
The open-air cinema took place on 3 August 2024 and 16 August 2025 at the sports field in Obruby. The Christmas tree lighting ceremony took place on 1 December 2024 in front of the fire station in Obruby; on 6 December 2025, it was combined there with a St. Nicholas gift-giving event.
