Okrouhlo: Hotels and Accommodation

Okrouhlo lies on the edge of the Střed Čech Nature Park. The Zahořanský stream, a valuable natural feature, flows through the area, along with many tributaries.

Landscape and Nature

The 376-metre-high Varta Hill rises above the village. The slopes of Varta were formerly cultivated in terraces; the summit, covered with sparse grass and heather, was originally bare and was planted with black pines and mixed woodland after 1963.

Numerous protected animal species live in the wooded Zahořanské Valley. The Zahořanský stream is classified as a trout water.

History and Village Heritage

In 1228, Okrouhlo was first mentioned in a document of the Prague Convent of St. George; it recorded that Okrouhlo had long belonged to the Monastery of St. John the Baptist on Ostrov near Davle. House No. 32 preserves part of a formerly larger timber farmstead.

There are traces of medieval gold mining around the Zahořanský stream and in the adjacent side valleys. Tramping cabins began to appear in the Zahořanské Valley from 1919 onwards, later developing into named settlements, including Havaj, Orlík and Sedm jezů.

On 9 February, a Masopustní průvod took place in Okrouhlo, processing through the village and regarded as a traditional event; it was followed by a Masopust celebration.

Hiking and Cycling Trails

The blue hiking trail from Libeř to Davle passes through Zahořany and follows the Zahořanský stream.

A hike through Okrouhlo follows the yellow hiking trail for 5.7 kilometres before meeting cycle route 19A at map point 4. There are cycling routes in the Zahořanské Valley.
