Pchery is located in a historically long-settled rural landscape shaped by intensive agriculture and industrial activities, particularly coal mining. Archaeological finds indicate continuous settlement in the cadastral area of Pchery from the Neolithic period through historical times.

Culture and history

The parish church of St. Stephen has been documented in Pchery since 1354. The masonry church, standing on the northern slope above Pchery, was enlarged into a three-aisled structure with a five-sided presbytery and a rectangular sacristy, and was remodeled in the Baroque style in 1709. The bell tower of Pchery has a Baroque form dating from the early 18th century, was restored in 1932, stands in a prominent position on the slope, and forms a distinctive aesthetic element of the municipality.

Further architectural traces range from the fortress torso to Farmstead No. 7. The fortress torso in Pchery is a fragmentarily preserved two-story stone building with late Gothic door and window surrounds. The buildings of Farmstead No. 7 date from the early 19th century and are arranged around a rectangular courtyard.

The industrial past is also clearly tangible in both spatial and temporal terms: Theodor hard-coal mine in Pchery was built between 1897 and 1902 and operated until 1935. The former Theodor power station is a high-quality industrial building dating from 1899.
