Pozdeň: Hotels and accommodations

The Church of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist is one of the identifiable historic sites in Pozdeň. Jaroslav Plichta of Žerotín had it built in 1289. Between 1847 and 1858, Václav Štraybl of Vrané rebuilt it in the Baroque style, giving it its present appearance. The marble high altar was added in 1879 through a donation from Canon Jan Bernard.

Culture

Near the town center stands a Baroque sandstone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1746. It was restored in 1996.

Next to the bus stop by the municipal office, the war memorial commemorates the soldiers who fell in the First World War from 1914 to 1918, as well as the victims of the German occupation from 1939 to 1945. Between 2022 and 2024, it was renovated and enclosed by a new fence.

Events

Every year in May, local young people organize the Staročeské máje. These include a procession of young people in traditional dress accompanied by musicians and a citizens’ procession, also attended by visitors from surrounding municipalities and towns.

The local SK Slavoj Pozdeň organizes Šibřinky on the second Saturday of March every year. Pozdeňské pádlo is a canoeing tournament on the stream that flows through the center of Pozdeň. The course described for the event ran from the intersection below the church to a weir and then back upstream.

Nature and cycling

Pozdeň is one of the municipalities marking the boundary of the Džbán Nature Park. The nature park was established in 1994 because of its exceptional and well-preserved landscape character.

The official Cycle Route 12–Peruc is 45 kilometers long, starts and ends in Pozdeň, and runs along roads and forest tracks.

Transport connections

Bus route 588 connects Slaný, Srbeč, and Milý and serves Pozdeň on weekdays.
