Stradonice: Hotels and Accommodation

Stradonice is home to the Stradonický mlýn mill, house no. 22, a testament to vernacular architecture: a two-storey masonry mill building from the second half of the 18th century and a single-storey agricultural building from the 18th to 19th century.

Culture

In 1878, the Stradonický mlýn water mill, house no. 22, had three water wheels. Two powered the mill, while one powered a sawmill. At the Zlonický potok stream, the Vodník Bačálek is considered a local curiosity and a symbol of the region.

The Zvonička splněných přání bell tower was built near the mill in 2014. A meeting with hunters is held at the bell every year. Stradonice also regularly hosts cultural events, excursions and traditional gatherings, including an All Souls' procession and the lighting of a tree.

History

The Stradonice fortress was first mentioned in 1505, damaged during the Thirty Years' War and later disappeared. According to local tradition, the Stradonice witch was called Makoša and lived in Bačálky. Also according to local tradition, the ghost Kamtodám appeared unexpectedly in Stradonice after nightfall.

Surroundings

The Krkonos hill [Vraný-Lukov] is located in the immediate vicinity of Stradonice. The Na Drahách hill [Třebíz] is also nearby. Further afield in the region are Srdov Mountain and Oblík Mountain. The ruins of Hazmburk, Zámek Ostrov Chateau, the ruins of Hradek Oltářík and the Church of Svatý Jiří are also located there.

Getting around

Stradonice is served by bus route 220126 between Slaný, Klobuky and Vraný. There are five services towards Vraný and four towards Slaný; there is no bus service at weekends.
