Slaný: Hotels and Accommodation

The historic centre of Slaný has been an urban heritage zone since 1992. History and architectural heritage therefore shape a significant part of the town.

Culture and History

The Regional Museum in Slaný features permanent exhibitions on the history of the town and its surroundings. The Velvarská Gate is the only surviving gate of Slaný’s town fortifications, which were built in the pre-Hussite period from the end of the 13th century to the beginning of the 15th century. A new exhibition about the town fortifications opened in the Velvarská Gate in 2021.

The Church of the Monastery of the Discalced Carmelites in Slaný offers guided tours in cooperation with the Slaný Information Centre; individual visits can be arranged for groups. Since September 2021, volunteers from Farní charita Slaný, together with the Roman Catholic parish of Slaný, have ensured that the Church of St Gothard is open to the public for personal prayer and visits to this important Gothic monument.

The Jaroslav Trnka Observatory in Slaný focuses mainly on popularising astronomy.

Nature

The Slánská hora educational trail runs through the Slánská hora nature monument and its protected area. It begins on Chadalíkova Street and passes a tunnel and a cave. The second viewpoint on the Slánská hora educational trail offers a view of Slaný’s historic centre.

Slánská hora has been protected as a nature monument since 1 February 1998 in order to preserve a geological phenomenon at one of the southernmost extensions of the volcanic activity of the České středohoří, with characteristic columnar jointing and numerous fissure caves.

Getting Around

During this year's season, the Cyklohráček excursion train runs on its current route from Praha-Bubny railway station to the Central Bohemian royal town of Slaný.
