Suchomasty: Hotels and Accommodation
Suchomasty lies partly within the Český kras Protected Landscape Area. The Klonk National Nature Monument is located 200 to 800 metres north of the village. It is the site of the world's first internationally defined stratotype for the boundary between the Silurian and Devonian periods. Klonk is also considered a site of global significance in stratigraphic geology. The geological boundary presented at Klonk has been dated to a period of Earth's history approximately 410 to 418 million years ago.
Nature
The local wildlife is also represented by a site of particular importance: the Suchomasty-zámeček site is home to a regionally significant summer colony of the lesser horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus hipposideros). In the vicinity of Suchomasty, the Suchomasty Reservoir is a popular excursion destination; a marked hiking trail runs along its right bank.
Culture
Suchomasty Chateau was originally built in the Renaissance style and dates from the 16th century. It was remodelled in the Baroque style in the 18th century. Suchomasty Chateau is not open to the public.
The historic village setting also includes the Baroque Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows, dating from the early 19th century. It is a cultural monument. The protected former school complex in Suchomasty comprises the school building, a garden and grounds enclosed by a stone wall.
A monument at Klonk commemorates the site. It was created by the academic sculptor Jiří Novotný and weighs six tonnes.
Routes and Getting There
The Klonk educational trail leads to sights such as Suchomasty Chateau. The walk from the Klonk Monument to Mlýnský rybník is approximately half a kilometre long.
Travel by public transport from Prague to Suchomasty takes approximately 1 hour and 27 minutes, including a transfer.
