Tismice: Hotels and Accommodation

Tismice combines a Romanesque basilica, an early medieval hillfort and a landscape in the valley of the Bušinec stream. This brings architectural history, archaeology and paths through the surrounding area together within a small space.

Culture

The basilica in Tismice is a Romanesque three-nave basilica dating from the 12th century. Its western façade has two towers, while the south wall contains a Gothic side portal from the mid-15th century. The northern tower houses the oldest surviving bell in the Kolín region; it was cast in 1442. The site also includes a mortuary chapel and numerous historic gravestones.

History

The Tismice hillfort is one of the oldest early medieval fortified settlements in the wider region and played a central role in the 8th and 9th centuries. The largest concentration of Avar-type finds in Bohemia is located at the hillfort. Archaeological finds from the local Slavic hillfort can also be seen in the Tismice municipal library.

Landscape and Trails

Tismice lies in the valley of the Bušinec stream. The footpath from the elevated plateau near Nová Ves into the valley of the Tismice stream takes about fifteen minutes. The Tismice hillfort can be reached from the village centre via a green-marked hiking trail in about five minutes; from there, you can enjoy a view of the basilica in Tismice.

Cycling Routes

The project “REGIONEM S VĚTREM V ZÁDECH”, implemented by the Municipality of Tismice, connects new cycling routes with existing routes. The new cycling routes run, wherever possible, along lightly trafficked local and public roads in the vicinity of Český Brod and Úvaly.

Sightseeing

A virtual tour is available for the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Tismice. The church, designated as a cultural monument, can be visited via the listed contacts; such a visit can be booked there. The main pilgrimage takes place on the Sunday around 15 August.
