The protected grounds of the Church of St. Simon and Jude in Vitice comprise the church, the bell tower, the surrounding wall and the gate. The church has late Romanesque origins dating from the early 13th century and was rebuilt in the Gothic style around 1380. It is considered one of the most valuable examples of Gothic architecture in Central Bohemia.

Culture

The bell tower by the Church of St. Simon and Jude is a Renaissance tower built shortly before 1560, and it preserves an original bell from the same year. A niche chapel in Vitice was built in 1920 for a Baroque sandstone statue of St. John of Nepomuk dating from around 1780.

The Lipany Mound is a monument to Prokop Holý, unveiled above Lipany on 4 September 1881. Since 1965, it has been included in the state list of cultural monuments. Historical reenactments of the Battle of Lipany still take place at the Lipany Mound every May.

The manor house with farmyard No. 1 in Lipany (Vitice, Kolín District) was probably built on the site of a medieval fortress. The building was originally single-storey and largely vaulted; it was presumably raised by one storey in 1789, with a new roof structure and a small tower.

Landscape and Trails

The Čertova brázda runs through Vitice, a remnant of a prehistoric route consisting of hollow ways and ditches. The triangular spur known as “Kozí hrádek” lies 300 metres northwest of the Church of St. Simon and Jude, above the Bylanka stream.

The Vitické pěšiny concept comprises a network of footpaths connecting Vitice with Dobré Pole, Lipany, Hřiby, Chotýš and Močedník. The Lipany Mound educational trail begins with an introductory information panel in the municipality of Vitice; further stops convey the history of the surrounding municipalities and the local natural environment.
