Zákolany: Hotels and Accommodation

Zákolany lies in the valley of the Zákolanský potok, and the history of the village is closely connected with the history of Budeč.

History and Culture

The pre-Romanesque Rotunda of St Peter and Paul in Budeč is considered the oldest standing stone building in the Czech Republic. Guided tours of the Budeč Rotunda are organised by the Sládečkovo vlastivědné muzeum in Kladno.

The history of the village is also linked to specific personalities and works: Antonín Zápotocký was born in Zákolany in 1884. The Zákolanská polka is associated with Zákolany and appears in Bedřich Smetana’s opera “Dvě vdovy”.

Other Cultural Sites

In Kováry, the Chapel of St Isidore, built in 1781, occasionally hosts exhibitions. The chapel underwent extensive restoration in 2025.

Landscape

The romantic surroundings of the Zákolanský potok are associated with artists from the Mařák landscape school, including Ant. Slavíček, Jaroslav Panuška and Otakar Lebeda. Budeč is suitable for leisurely walks and contemplative hikes through the countryside.

The surroundings of Zákolany include Zámek Ostrov Castle, the Stará kanalizační čistírna Praha-Bubeneč Museum, Hajnice Hill [Velké Přílepy-Kamýk] and the Botanická zahrada Praha Garden.

Further afield in the region are Letohrádek královny Anny Castle, the Galerie Rudolfinum Museum, and the islands of Slovanský ostrov and Velké Benátky.
