Kunčice: Hotels and Accommodation

Kunčice combines a long local history with river landscapes, ponds, and distinctive traces of its cultural heritage. Kunčice was first mentioned as a settlement as early as 1382. A stone water castle once stood at the highest point of the village; it was protected by the Bystřice River and included an agricultural estate. In 1721, the Kunčice fortress was converted into a single-storey Baroque château.

Culture

Opposite the chapel stands a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk dating from 1830. Next to the chapel, a sandstone pyramid commemorates the Prussian-Austrian War of 1866. Around 1850, Betlach bought the Baroque château and its associated agricultural estate from Count Harrach; the estate was subsequently known as Betlachův statek. The reconstructed Betlachův statek serves as a leisure centre in Kunčice.

The château park of Hrádek u Nechanic is located nearby. It was laid out in 1844 according to a design by L. Krüger, originally covered 29 hectares, and today encompasses approximately 18 hectares. A circular path runs through the park, offering views of the château standing on a gentle rise. The standard tour of Hrádek u Nechanic château leads through original, richly decorated interiors. They present the aristocratic way of life in the second half of the 19th century, as well as the Harrach family’s reception rooms on the ground floor.

Nature

The Bystřice Nature Monument encompasses a section of the middle course of the Bystřice River with typical riverside vegetation. This nature monument actively protects the habitat of the highly endangered and significant European species thick-shelled river mussel (Unio crassus). There are six ponds in the vicinity of Kunčice. They include the Kunčické rybníky, a group of three bodies of water on an unnamed stream that rises in the Obora forest. The landscape of Kunčice also features an unusually high number of protected summer oak trees designated as notable trees.

Leisure

The Rosnička children’s club offers a morning programme without parents accompanying the children. The children’s club includes an equipped playroom, a large gymnasium promoting physical activity, and an outdoor playground.

Trails

A green-marked hiking trail from Prasek to Hrádek passes through Kunčice. Another route runs from Nechanice to Hrádek u Nechanic via Zvíkov and Kunčice. After 8.4 kilometres, it reaches the centre of Kunčice and then continues through the local forest towards the château.
