Ohnišťany: Hotels and accommodations

The 32-km Kladruby nad Labem–Ohnišťany cycling route runs through Ohnišťany. It passes through a flat landscape with little change in elevation and uses Class III roads as well as paved local paths. On Saturday, June 7, 2025, Mateřská škola Sedmikráska also organized the traditional “Ohnišťanský pedál” bike ride.

Culture and history

The local history includes the church and the pillar with a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The pillar was declared a cultural monument by the Ministry of Culture in 2005. The Ministry of Culture described the statue as a high-quality work of East Bohemian Baroque sculpture.

The painting on the church’s main altar dates from 1871 and was created by the academic painter Alois Sajfrt from Vrchlabí. In 1910, Kadlík, the church’s then patron and owner of Podlesí, commissioned a comprehensive renovation of the church interior. After the fire, the church was rebuilt in its present form.

The fortress in Ohnišťany is documented as early as 1318. It had a moat fed by the stream from the former settlement of Nové Ohnišťany. Albrecht z Valdštejna had the farmstead built around 1624–1626. Remains of the walls of the original farmstead can still be seen at stables No. 102 and No. 116. The former fortress stood on a plot of land still known today as “Zámeček”.

Transport connections

The railway in the Ohnišťany area was built between 1867 and 1870. The railway line runs from Chlumec nad Cidlinou via Stará Paka to Trutnov.
