The permanent exhibition “Cesty města” traces the history of Hradec Králové from prehistoric times to the First Republic and uses multimedia interactive elements.

Culture

Another part of the “Cesty města” exhibition explores the lives of Hradec Králové’s inhabitants during the period when the city was a bastioned military fortress, up to the war of 1866. Another section presents Hradec Králové as one of the oldest legally recognized cities and explains its urban development from the 13th to the 16th century.

The interactive exhibition “Mikrosvět – makrosvět” is located in the digital planetarium building. The permanent exhibition “České umění 20. století a jeho škatulky” at the Gallery of Modern Art in Hradec Králové examines the categories used to organize 20th-century Czech art.

Cityscape

The Renaissance Bílá věž is 72 metres high. From its gallery, it offers views of Hradec Králové as well as the distant peaks of the Krkonoše and Orlické Mountains. Bílá věž also offers an interactive tour with modern audiovisual elements.

The original and diverse buildings designed by the architects Josef Gočár and Jan Kotěra earned Hradec Králové the nickname “Salon of the Republic”. The Gočár Staircase was built in 1909–1910 and is a significant work of modern architecture in Hradec Králové.

Nature

Hradec Králové is scenically situated at the confluence of the Elbe and Orlice rivers. Biřička Pond lies south of Hradec Králové in the Nový Hradec area and is used for walking, cycling and swimming in summer. The pond and surrounding forests can be reached from the centre of Hradec Králové by public transport on routes 1 or 2.
