In Lišice and the surrounding area, art history, traces of historic settlement, and named routes come together. Liščí kopec is 267 metres high and lies on the route from Chlumec nad Cidlinou to Lišice, approximately 400 metres before the entrance to Lišice.

Culture and history

The painter Vincenc Beneš, a representative of Czech Cubism, was born in Lišice on 22 January 1883. To mark his 110th birthday, a commemorative plaque was installed on the former Lišice school building; it was designed by the academic sculptor Jan Holinka from Pardubice. The Pálení čarodějnic festival was also celebrated in Lišice in three consecutive years: 2024, 2025, and 2026.

Archaeological investigations at Vyšehrad began in 1956. They uncovered the extensive ground plan of an oppidum, as well as wrought-iron tools, animal bones, utility pottery, and charred beams. There is also an extensive fortified settlement site from the Late Bronze Age and the Early Iron Age, dated approximately to the 7th century BC.

The former settlement of Tečmín, located near Lišice, is documented for the period from 1299 to 1454. Tečmín included three ponds and a fortified manor. In 1571, Tečmín was mentioned only as pastureland and as a fortified settlement with ramparts and a ditch.

Landscape and routes

From Lišice towards Lišičky, access leads along a paved road and then via the first fortified turn-off to Vyšehrad; there, a former forester’s lodge stands alone. At Rybník Hejlovec, which the route reaches from Vyšehrad, a previously mentioned burial site is probably located nearby. The longer route in the Lišice area is approximately 20 kilometres long.

Further landscape features

Farma Lišice is located on the edge of the municipality of Lišice, near the town of Chlumec nad Cidlinou, and is primarily focused on sport fishing. The nearly four-hectare enclosed grounds contain a 1.25-hectare former sand-pit pond with a stock of trophy fish.
