Kratonohy: Hotels and Accommodation
Kratonohy presents a variety of features within a compact area: a church with Gothic origins and Baroque alterations, a historically significant chateau, traditional farmsteads, as well as bodies of water and paths in the surrounding area.
Culture and Local History
The Church of St. James the Elder has Gothic origins and was altered in the Baroque style between 1707 and 1710. It stands on a slight rise in the central part of Kratonohy.
A Baroque chateau that still exists today was built on the site of the former Kratonohy fortress under the Kinský family. During the peasant uprising of 1775, the chateau was burned down by peasants; later alterations impaired its architectural character.
Traditional smallholder farmsteads with farm buildings and preserved barns have been retained in Kratonohy. The traditional cultural life also includes the Masopust festival, which is traditionally held as a recurring cultural event. Some surviving songs by Jiří Volný were published in Hradec Králové in 1822 under the title “Jiřího Volného písně veselé”.
Michnovka is home to a wooden fire bell tower built on posts, which is one of the local cultural monuments. The structure has a small bell in the fork of a tree and a conical metal roof.
Water and Landscape
North of Kratonohy, the Bystřice flows in two channels: an old one and a newly regulated channel. The Písníky recreational area is located near Obědovice and is used for seasonal recreation; part of the area lies within the municipality of Kratonohy.
Routes Through the Village
A Class II road runs through the southern built-up area of Kratonohy. It originally carried the number 11 and was designated as 611 after renumbering. Road III/32313 connects Kratonohy with the Michnovka district and leads towards Pravy.
The KČT cycle route 4199 runs through Kratonohy on a paved municipal road and then turns onto a paved farm track along the Bystřice towards Roudnice.
