The Trotina flows from north to south through Račice nad Trotinou. At the beginning of the cadastral area of Račice nad Trotinou, the Hustířanka flows into the Trotina.

History and Monuments

Račice nad Trotinou was founded and settled in 1222, together with other municipalities, by Opatovice Monastery. According to another source, the first written mention of Račice nad Trotinou dates from 1366.

On Horka Hill above Račice nad Trotinou lies the grave of the Austrian Captain Weil von Weilenfeld, inventory number 2. A monument to the victims of the First World War is located in the cadastral area of Račice nad Trotinou. There is also a sandstone pyramid dedicated to 12 soldiers of the Austrian 40th Infantry Regiment. In the immediate vicinity of the monument in Horka, 15 men are buried, along with the exhumed remains of another man found at Hořiněves.

Farmstead No. 59 is protected as an immovable cultural monument. The gate of House No. 47 is likewise protected as an immovable cultural monument. The local school was founded in 1817; teaching continued there until 1967. The local school building is considered an important cultural object. The village belfry dates from 1848 and was built after the abolition of compulsory labor. The cross on the village green in front of the municipal office is considered a monument of local significance.

Educational Trail

Račice nad Trotinou is the seventh stop on the 25-kilometer, moderately difficult “Josefov–Smiřice–Chlum 1866” educational trail, which is intended for pedestrians, wheelchair users, and cyclists; the route is problematic for wheelchair users because it runs along a main road. On the “Josefov–Smiřice–Chlum 1866” educational trail, Horka follows Račice nad Trotinou as the eighth stop 0.6 kilometers later; the signpost stands behind the railway line on the slope.
