Skřivany: Hotels and Accommodation
Culture and History
The château in Skřivany is protected as an immovable cultural monument under registration number ÚSKP 46918/6-694. Around 1720, the old Renaissance fortress in Skřivany was probably extensively rebuilt as a Baroque château. In 1867–1868, Gustav Ledvinka had the château completely remodelled according to a design by Josef Niklas in the Windsor Gothic style.
The Church of St. Anne in Skřivany was founded in 1720 as the château chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and was consecrated to Saint Anne in 1842. It has been protected as a historic monument since 22 January 1964.
The wooden hexagonal bell tower in Skřivany is estimated to date from the period after 1720. Following the sugar factory fire in 1905, it was erected behind the road at its present location. The bell tower was completely restored in 2004; the following year, it received a newly cast bell.
A monument to Václav Vojtěch stands in the park in front of the Skřivany municipal office. It commemorates the traveller who, as part of Admiral Byrd’s expedition, became the first Czech to set foot in Antarctica.
