Šaplava: Hotels and Accommodation

The first written record of Šaplava dates from 1381. Most of the historic buildings have been preserved.

Culture and Townscape

House No. 22 is considered a typical wooden residential building. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk was erected in 1764 at the expense of local resident Jan Buček. At that time, a wooden bell tower with a bell was erected next to the statue. The statue is registered as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic under object no. 101778.

On the front of the crucifixion statue “Ukřižování,” the inscription “This statue was erected in honour and praise of God” is carved in Schwabacher script. The statue was erected in 1794. The memorial to the victims of the First World War was completely reconstructed in 2012.

Nature and Cycling

The Králický stream flows through Šaplava. The countryside around Šaplava is suitable for walks and mushroom picking. A cycle path runs through Šaplava; the cycle route passing through the village is suitable for trekking or road bikes and runs along paved roads.

There is a rest area for cycle tourists at the local sports ground. The cyclists’ rest area has a paved surface measuring 9 × 6 metres, six benches and a cycling map.

Events

The Pilgrimage Day took place in Šaplava on 6 July 2024 and 11 July 2026. At the Pilgrimage Day on 11 July 2026, the programme for children included competitions, games and a bouncy castle. The second New Year’s Eve hike took place in the area around Šaplava on 31 December 2024.

Geographical Location

The Old Jewish Cemetery in Nový Bydžov is located approximately 11 km from Šaplava and was founded in 1520.
