Jičín: Hotels and Accommodation

Jičín combines distinctive buildings with accessible cultural venues and clearly signposted routes. A central historical landmark is the Valdická Gate: it was built from 1568 to 1578 as part of the city fortifications of Jičín. Its observation tower is 52 metres high and has 156 steps. Visitors can access the observation gallery and the attic of the Valdická Gate, with views of the roof structure and exhibition rooms.

Culture and History

The Church of St Ignatius is the oldest surviving building in Jičín. In July and August, the church is open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. During this period, guided tours are offered on Fridays at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., and on Saturdays at 10 a.m. and noon.

Concerts and lectures take place in the synagogue at Židovská 100, Jičín. The guides from the Valdštejn Museum and Mint offer guided tours of Jičín.

The Valdštejn Loggia is a unique early Baroque monument and, at the same time, a cultural centre focusing on live art, alternative culture and unusual family events. The Jičín–zastávka railway station is located in the immediate vicinity of the Valdštejn Loggia.

Nature and Routes

Lipová Alley is a unique natural monument. The avenue, just under two kilometres long, leads from the centre of Jičín to the Valdštejn Loggia. It has a gravel-surfaced path suitable for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Rumcajs Trail is a 12-kilometre circular route that starts and ends at Valdštejnovo náměstí. It leads via Kbelnice, Mount Brada, Prachov and Holín back to Jičín.

Family

Rumcajsova ševcovna includes Mančá’s herb garden, Cipísek’s zoo and a playroom for the youngest visitors. Visitors can also see the shop under the tower, where Rumcajs practised his craft for many years.
