Samšina: Hotels and accommodation
Culture
The Church of Saint Wenceslas with its bell tower in Samšina is a Gothic building dating from the mid-14th century. It was rebuilt in the Late Baroque style between 1785 and 1787, creating the present western presbytery and sacristy. As a cultural monument, the church is protected under ÚSKP number 37589/6-1363.
The bell tower is hexagonal in plan, features Late Gothic forms, and has a post-and-beam frame structure. A coin of the Margraves of Meissen, Frederick II and William III, who jointly ruled from 1442 to 1445, was cast into its bell.
In Samšina's village square, in front of the church, stands a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, a valuable Late Baroque sculptural work. The statue of the Virgin Mary in the village is a valuable example of Baroque art in a rural setting. The new school building is also part of the village's history: it was completed in 1895.
On the outskirts of Samšina, a Baroque stone reconciliation cross commemorates a fatal historical accident involving a horse. A statue of Saint Vincent was erected at the grave of the accident victim in 1782. The vicarage was created by converting a residential building of an original fortress near the church.
