Culture

The ruins of Frymburk Castle form a two-part castle complex on a high rocky spur surrounded by the Olešenka River near Nový Hrádek. Frymburk Castle, also known as Frimburk, was used from the 14th to the 17th century. A distinctive structure in the complex is an irregularly shaped round tower approximately 18 metres wide, with masonry up to 4 metres thick.

The Marian Column in Nový Hrádek’s square is a late Baroque sandstone column approximately 6 metres high, with a statue of the Virgin Mary dating from 1747; in May 1958, it was designated a protected cultural monument. The Church of St Peter and Paul is located on the north-western side of Nový Hrádek’s square. Its interior includes furnishings from several historical styles, from the early Baroque to the present day; the side altar of Saint Joseph dates from the late 17th century.

Viewpoints

Rozhledna na Šibeníku is accessible year-round from sunrise to sunset; admission is free. The observation tower is 47 metres high, and its viewing platform is located at a height of 32 metres.

A car park is located 200 metres from the observation tower at the Tourist Information Centre on Šibeník. There are also the Nový Hrádek-škola and Nový Hrádek-náměstí bus stops, as well as a marked footpath from Nový Hrádek’s square.

Landscape

The Stations of the Cross on Šibeník initially offer views of the Orlické Mountains and the Olešenka Valley, and at the end of the path, views of the Giant Mountains.

Orlica, Sedloňovský vrch, Gomoła and Grodziec are each landscape features in the wider regional surroundings of Nový Hrádek and are considered mountains.
