Slatina Nad Úpou: Hotels and Accommodation

The “Justynčina stezka” is a 7-kilometre circular hiking trail that follows marked hiking paths. Three information boards along the route describe twelve interesting sites related to nature, culture and local attractions.

Hiking and Trails

Connected with the “Justynčina stezka” is the story of Justynka, a Jewish girl from Hronov who was sent to Boušín in 1823 to be prepared for admission to the Catholic Church and was later baptised there. The medieval educational trail “Po stopách erbu zlatého třmene” partly runs through the area of Slatina nad Úpou and includes five stations.

The “Slatina nad Úpou, odb. Boušín” bus stop is 350 metres from the Justynčina stezka. The distance between Červený Kostelec railway station and the Justynčina stezka is given as 6.3 kilometres.

Cycling

The KČT cycle route No. 4018, “Okruh Boženy Němcové”, is a 38-kilometre circular route. The “Okruh Boženy Němcové” is considered a moderately difficult circular route with numerous stopping points.

Culture and History

The Church of the “Visitation of the Virgin Mary” stands in Boušín, a district of Slatina nad Úpou in the Náchod District. It was built in 1682–1692 at the expense of Prince Lorenzo Piccolomini, replacing an older wooden church, and is a single-nave, oriented Baroque building without a tower. A small path leads downhill from the church to the “Chapel of the Virgin Mary” with the Boušínská studánka spring.

Boušín is a pilgrimage settlement associated with the story of the miraculous healing of a deaf-mute girl. Božena Němcová recorded this story in her work Babička. Boušínská samota is the oldest place in the municipality of Slatina nad Úpou and consists of a church, a rectory, a cemetery, several holiday homes and a chapel with a spring.

The “Slatinská zvonice” is a wooden log structure with a square floor plan. It stands elevated in the centre of the village near the municipal office, has been preserved in its original form and has been documented since 1682; Prince Piccolomini had it built. The “Mariánský sloup” in Slatina nad Úpou is registered as a cultural monument under registration number 1875. The “Bathildis Strasse” is marked in three places by large sandstone blocks. At the beginning and end are the carved inscriptions “BATHILDIS STRASSE ….. SILNICE BATHILDY” with an arrow; in the middle is “BATHILDIS PLATZ ….. STÁNEK BATHILDY”.
