Starkov: Hotels and Accommodation

Stárkov is located in the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area. In this setting, protected natural areas are combined with striking rock formations and historic buildings.

Nature

The Stárkov beech forests are a Site of Community Importance and lie in Zone II of the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area. They comprise a unique complex of flower-rich beech forests, as well as scree forests and meadows in some places. The Dřevíč (Olšavka) and Jívka streams belong to the Metuje and Dřevíč Site of Community Importance, which was designated to protect the brook lamprey.

Culture

The Stárkov parish house was rebuilt in its present form in 1660 and is described as the oldest secular building in eastern Bohemia. The Stations of the Cross ends at the Baroque Chapel of the Fourteen Holy Helpers.

At the Mlýn Dřevíček mill, the exemplary operation of the complete original mill equipment is demonstrated; during the tour, visitors can try out some of the milling tasks themselves.

Things to do

Vysoký kámen is a mighty rock cleft on the southwestern edge of the inner marginal structure of the Polická Cretaceous Basin, with a popular tourist lookout point. The rock cleft at Vysoký kámen is more than 100 metres long and more than 20 metres deep. From the market square in Stárkov, Vysoký kámen can be reached via a blue-marked hiking trail. Due to local legends about hidden treasures and an underground city of dwarfs, the rock cleft is also known by the folk name “Trpasličí rokle”.

A network of cycle paths and roads leads from Stárkov to the surrounding natural attractions and towns. The “Katovská třicítka” march is scheduled to take place in Stárkov in September.
