Nature and trails

The Josef Vavroušek educational trail runs through the Teplické skály along a 6-kilometer blue-marked circular route with 15 stations. The Teplické skály make up the larger part of the Adršpašsko-Teplické skály National Nature Reserve. In this rocky area, the ruins of Střmen Castle provide a viewpoint.

Cycling and winter sports

Cycle route 4036 is 31 kilometers long and starts and ends in Teplice nad Metují. It is of moderate difficulty and is recommended for mountain bikes or trekking bikes.

The Ski Kamenec ski area has two 500-meter runs that are groomed daily with a snow groomer and artificially snow-covered. Ski Kamenec also offers a ski school with ski instructors available on request.

Culture and history

The Renaissance Upper Castle was built in 1599 by Václav Bohdanecký z Hodkova and now houses the town hall. The Baroque Church of St. Lawrence was built in 1724 under Jan Straka z Nedabylic; it preserves original ceiling paintings and richly carved furnishings.

In the center of Teplice nad Metují, the Ivanitská poustevna comprises a pilgrimage church and a Paradise Garden. It is considered a rare surviving monument to hermit life in Bohemia. The church features remarkable Rococo frescoes.

Events and accessibility

The International Mountain Film Festival in Teplice nad Metují is a competition festival for professional and amateur films about mountaineering and other sports. Every year, the Redpoint Team organizes more than ten races, including mountain biking, running, duathlon, and roller-skiing events. The Sudety Rally is the Redpoint Team’s best-known mountain bike marathon and was first held in 1995.
