Dolni Kalna: Hotels and Accommodation

Dolní Kalná lies in a picturesque valley crossed by two streams and is surrounded by wooded hills. The highest peak reaches 497 metres above sea level. Dolní Kalná is a suitable starting point for visits to the Krkonoše Mountains, the Podkrkonoší region, the Bohemian Paradise and the Zvičínsko area.

Nature

Part of the old Příčnice country road in the vicinity of Dolní Kalná can still be explored on foot today. In good weather, the path along the Příčnice offers views of the panorama of the Krkonoše Mountains, the outlying areas of the Jizera and Orlické Mountains, as well as the Bradlo, Zvičina and Staropacké hory mountains. Ještěd near Liberec can also occasionally be seen.

Culture and History

The Baroque parish church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary and Saint Wenceslas in Dolní Kalná was built on the foundations of an earlier Protestant church, first mentioned in the 14th century. Jan Amos Comenius preached in this church before leaving Bohemia for Poland.

Leisure

The Dolní Kalná outdoor swimming pool is situated in the wooded landscape of the Podkrkonoší region and features grassy banks and a concrete pool suitable for swimmers and families with children. The complex also includes a children's area, volleyball and nohejbal courts, as well as lanes suitable for inline skating.

The 30-kilometre Dolní Kalná Cycling Circuit starts at the local outdoor swimming pool and leads to Rovně, from where there is a beautiful view of the Krkonoše Mountains.

Sport

Cross-country skiing trails are groomed in Dolní Kalná in winter. When there is sufficient natural snow, volunteers from Dolní Kalná groom cross-country skiing trails in the surrounding area, enabling people in the Podkrkonoší region to set out for cross-country skiing directly from their homes.

The paragliding school offers instruction at various training levels throughout the Krkonoše Mountains and also offers tandem flights with an instructor there.
