Architecture and History

The old forge in Hořejší Vrchlabí is a protected national monument and a valuable example of traditional Giant Mountains architecture. The former forge is a two-storey building, partly constructed using log construction, with a gallery running around part of the log-built living room. At the same time, the old forge is a wooden house built on a masonry ground floor.

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk, located opposite the forge, is a Baroque chapel built in 1709 and has been a protected national monument since 1958. It features a massive octagonal dome topped by a lantern with wooden columns.

A remnant of the old Silesian Stezke through the Giant Mountains, known as “Kamenná cesta”, has survived from Hořejší Vrchlabí to this day.
