Dolní Olešnice: Hotels and Accommodation

Dolní Olešnice combines historic buildings in the village with prominent destinations in the surrounding area and further afield. Between the château, church, wayside shrine, cemetery, and a red-marked hiking trail, a multifaceted picture of the municipality emerges.

Culture and Architectural History

The focal point is the Renaissance Nový zámek Château, which Hanibal von Valdštejn had built in the third quarter of the 16th century. Its complex includes a fortification wall with a bastion, sculptures of the four elements, statues of Saint John of Nepomuk and Saint Florian, and a park.

The Church of St. James the Elder was built in 1559 in the cemetery above the settlement as a late Gothic and Renaissance mixed-style building. It was remodeled in 1589, extended with a tower in 1608, and supplemented with a porch on the northern side of the nave in 1629. The church also retains an almost completely intact sgraffito decoration, considered the architect and master builder Valmadi’s first ecclesiastical structure.

Further historical landmarks can be found in and around Dolní Olešnice: Lázně Church is located in the vicinity of the village. The stone wayside shrine Na Zadech in the village is made of white sandstone, has a deep niche, and bears the year 1747. In front of the cemetery entrance stands a Calvary with three statues on a pedestal; the ensemble is a Baroque work from 1797. By the former parish house dating from 1787, at the local cemetery, stands a protected winter lime tree approximately 220 years old.

Černá hora Mountain lies in the vicinity of Dolní Olešnice, while Pecen Hill is nearby. In the wider regional surroundings are Tetřeví vrch Mountain and Zadní Žalý Mountain. The ruins of Spalona Strażnica are also located there.
