Horní Kalná: Hotels and Accommodation

Horní Kalná is home to the Horní Kalná–kalenský obzor geological locality. It can be accessed without restrictions; by car, it is possible to get within 250 metres of it.

Open Spaces and Winter Recreation Area

The lower part of Horní Kalná has a freely accessible grassy area and an asphalted площад. In winter conditions, the asphalted area can be used as an ice-skating rink.

Trails, Cycling Route and Views

The Horní Kalná lookout trail runs for 3 km from the settlement of Příčnice to the forest near Na Lánech; it can also be accessed from Kunčice nad Labem. The trail along the ridge near Příčnice offers views of the Krkonoše panorama.

The 22-km circular cycling route “Z Martinic do Branné a zase zpět” also passes through Horní Kalná, via Martinice v Krkonoších, Horní Branná, Dolní Branná and Horní Kalná. The village is home to the “Houpačka u kříže mezi lány” swing, which is part of the “Houpačky z hor” project. In clear weather, Sněžka can be seen on the horizon from there.

Culture and History

Numerous religious monuments have been preserved in Horní Kalná, including chapels, wayside shrines, stone crosses, statues of saints, bell towers and a monument to the victims of the First World War. One wayside shrine contains a glazed Pietà statue; it was erected in 1879 at the expense of Jan and Anna Kodym.

A statue of Our Lady of the Rosary stands by the road to the summit near house number 112. The Prášivka trail descends to Horní Kalná, where several small monuments can be found in the village. Next to the school stands an 1819 cross with faded depictions of saints. At the U Třech svatých site stands a statue of Saint Joseph with the infant Jesus.

Annual Event

Every year, Horní Kalná hosts the “Bronzová kopačka Horní Kalné” nohejbal tournament for a travelling trophy.
