Eisenbrod: Hotels and Accommodation
Eisenbrod (Železný Brod) combines glass, local history and historic architecture with regularly recurring events. The annual glass festival Skleněné městečko is held on the third weekend of September, featuring glassmaking demonstrations and creative workshops for visitors.
Glass and Crafts
The Muzeum a galerie firmy Detesk documents the development of artisanal glassmaking in Železný Brod from around 1920 to the 1990s with more than 400 exhibits. In the sales rooms of LAMPGLAS, s. r. o., visitors can watch glass being made at a glassmaker’s burner.
The Minimuzeum skleněných betlémů Železný Brod currently displays around 80 glass nativity scenes from the collection of Alena Kortanová. There is also a creative bead workshop where visitors can make their own jewelry, such as necklaces, bracelets or earrings.
History and Architecture
The ethnographic exhibition of the Městské muzeum v Železném Brodě is located in Běliště. It comprises nine rooms, each dedicated to an area of the history of Železný Brod and its immediate surroundings. Běliště is a wooden building dating from 1807.
In the historic district of Trávníky, there are listed buildings of folk architecture with a preserved character traditionally influenced by the Podkrkonoší region. The log houses and Neoclassical buildings were constructed at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The tour of the historic Trávníky district is just under 1 km long. It is also home to the sandstone fountain dating from 1828, which is a technical monument.
The Kostelík sv. Jana Nepomuckého Na Poušti was built in 1769 by Count Karel Josef Des Fours (1701–1775). Exhibitions and concerts are held in the church several times a year. The Svatojánská krojovaná pouť has been held every year in May at the Kostelík sv. Jana Nepomuckého Na Poušti since 1997.
Kostelní vršek is a remarkable late Baroque ensemble comprising the Church of Saint James the Greater from the second half of the 18th century, a single-storey rectory dating from 1723 and an ossuary dating from 1765. The Železnobrodská zvonice has a unique wooden construction consisting of two independent supporting structures: one supports the building envelope, while the other supports the suspended bells.
The Železnobrodská radnice is a Neo-Renaissance building constructed in 1890 according to a design by the architect J. Zeyer. The left wing of the building was added in 1909.
Events and Products
The Železnobrodský jarmark takes place every year on the second weekend of June. The fair features numerous stalls offering refreshments and traditional products.
