Tachov lies at the foot of Tachovský kopec in a gently hilly landscape. The interregional cycle route No. 25 between Doksy and Dubá runs through the town; the local cycle route No. 0015 from Dolní Houska via Ždírec and Tachov to Doksy also passes through here.
Landscape
The area around Tachov is suitable for hiking and cycling excursions. However, no marked hiking trail leads through Tachov. There is a rest area with a shelter in the centre.
Nature
Tachovský vrch is of geotouristic importance. At Tachovský vrch, an active quarry exposed the contact between Permian ignimbrite and Tertiary phonolite. The geological site of Tachovský vrch can be reached by car without any traffic restrictions.
The Lípa v Tachově is a protected individual tree; it was first placed under protection on 9 December 1994.
Culture
The Baroque chapel in Tachov was built between 1793 and 1794 and is protected as a cultural monument. On the road to Ždírec stands a sandstone wayside shrine with a niche containing a painted image of the Holy Trinity, as well as a metal cross. There are wayside shrines on the roads from Tachov to Ždírec and Okna.
The memorial to those who fell in the First World War consists of a sandstone pedestal and a life-sized angel figure holding a laurel wreath in its hands. The protected former half-timbered schoolhouse No. 38 in Tachov dates from 1787. Behind the municipality, a cross stands beside an old field path from Tachov towards Zbyn.
History
The oldest documented mention of Tachov dates from 1392. The so-called Dubský zelený chmel was traditionally cultivated in Tachov.
