Osoblaha can be explored through individual places with a distinct historical character. The Jewish cemetery is considered one of the oldest and most important Jewish monuments in all of Silesia. It contains 313 surviving gravestones, most of which date from the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century.
Culture and History
The surviving remains of Osoblaha’s town walls are freely accessible year-round. At the same time, the preserved sections are the only partially surviving reminder of the medieval town fortifications.
The cemetery Church of St. Nicholas is a Baroque cemetery church built between 1756 and 1766 and protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. A deanery church stood on the site of the former Church of St. Mary Magdalene; its origins date back to the third quarter of the 13th century. It had a Renaissance tower from the early 17th century as well as a valuable Gothic portal with leaf reliefs.
The Chapel of St. Valentine and St. Blaise stands on Pavlovická Street, opposite house no. 19. It contains a relief of the Crucifixion.
Nature and Landscape
The VelkĂ˝ PavlovickĂ˝ rybnĂk Nature Reserve lies on the boundary of the cadastral areas of Hlinka, Osoblaha and SlezskĂ© Pavlovice. It is an important refuge for the local birdlife.
