Osek Nad Bečvou: Hotels and Accommodation

Osek nad Bečvou lies on the right bank of the Bečva River in its valley, in a fertile landscape. At the same time, the protected area “Bečva – Žebračka” also includes the cadastral area of Osek nad Bečvou.

Nature

The artificially created Strhanec Canal, which flows more slowly and has become silted up, is located in the “Bečva – Žebračka” area. It is a habitat of the thick-shelled river mussel (Unio crassus).

Fishing and Outdoor Activities

The Bečva 2 fishing area extends from the weir at the railway station in Přerov to the old weir upstream from Osek nad Bečvou. The Jadran fishing area is also available to visitors in Osek nad Bečvou and can be reached from Osek nad Bečvou; vehicles are prohibited from Lipník nad Bečvou. Jadran is a non-salmonid fishing area, and the municipality of Osek nad Bečvou is listed as its user.

A cycle path runs along the Bečva River in Osek nad Bečvou and is also available to visitors. In addition, a sports complex is available to visitors in Osek nad Bečvou.

History

The oldest documentary evidence of Osek nad Bečvou is considered to be an entry concerning church income from 1322, preserved in a contemporary parchment missal of the local church. From the earliest times, the royal road “královská (strata regia)” from Vienna to the north ran through Osek nad Bečvou.

The historic settlementscape of Osek nad Bečvou developed on both sides of the former royal road. The church, cemetery and school stand on the spacious village square formed as a result. The historic trade route passing through Osek nad Bečvou was called the “Roman Amber Road” and was used by merchants travelling north to the amber deposits.

A Slavic settlement with predominantly Slavic pottery from the 8th and 9th centuries was identified in the cadastral area of Osek nad Bečvou. Fragments of Linear Pottery culture ceramics and Urnfield culture ceramics were also found.

Churches and Monuments

The “Kostel Povýšení sv. Kříže” church in Osek nad Bečvou is a High Baroque church on Gothic foundations, with a cemetery in the centre of the village. It was built from 1783 to 1791. The “Socha sv. Tadeáše a socha sv. Jana Nepomuckého” ensemble is a local Baroque sculptural work from 1748.

The “Kaple sv. Vendelína” chapel stands on a ridge in Osek nad Bečvou. At the chapel, passers-by can ring the bell from the Tomášková–Dytrychová bell foundry.
