History

In 1228, Hlavečník was donated to Opatovice Monastery. The former name Hlávecko changed to Hlavečník in the 13th century. The cadastral area of Hlavečník is also part of the National Cultural Monument of the Kladruby nad Labem Stud Farm, while the Kladrubské Polabí Protected Landscape Area includes Hlavečník. A coin hoard discovered in Hlavečník was handed over to the National Museum in Prague, where it was put on display under the name of its finder. The protected Opatovický Canal also has a section in the Hlavečník cadastral area.

Landscape

The fields around Hlavečník are predominantly sandy. The forests around the village are called Sokolí to the north, Splávy to the south and Skřípěř to the east. In the wider regional surroundings of Hlavečník lies the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Landscape for the Breeding and Training of Ceremonial Carriage Horses at Kladruby nad Labem”, with its sandy floodplain, pastures, meadows, forests, fields, parks, paths, avenues, groups of trees, individual trees and watercourses. This landscape is used for breeding and training Kladruber horses.

Routes

A road to Rasoch leads over Písník Hill. A blue-marked hiking trail runs from Hlavečník along the Černá strouha to Labské Chrčice. The “Po práci legrani – Hlavečník” excursion route also passes through Hlavečník.
