Libišany: Hotels and Accommodations

History

The pile-dwelling settlement of Na Bahnech is generally attributed to the Funnelbeaker culture and dated to approximately 3800 to 3500 BC. Excavations at Na Bahnech uncovered traces of a pile-dwelling settlement built on wooden platforms in a waterlogged area flooded by the Elbe.

The local history includes several notable landmarks: The functional bell tower of Libišany has a circular ground plan and a conical roof. The stone cross in the central village square of Libišany bears a biblical inscription. In the village center, a monument to those fallen in the First World War commemorates the past; it consists of a granite block and bears a plaque with 30 names. Another stone cross in the cemetery depicts Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary.

A fortified hill with a small bell is all that remains of Libišany Fortress. The fortress is located in the village on the main road and is freely accessible.

Nature

The peat deposit of Libišany covers 42.432 hectares and lies in an old riverbed of the Elbe. The surroundings of Libišany also contain protected wet meadows with reed beds covering an area of 11.94 hectares.

Open, occasionally flooded meadows in the surroundings of Libišany provide a habitat for orchids, marsh dandelions, and snipes.

Events

The program of Libišanské posvícení 2026 included craft workshops and ceramics. In 2026, Libišanské posvícení was scheduled as a festival of the local community, held for the fourth time at the football field in Libišany. The fishing competitions of the fourth edition were scheduled for June 13, 2026, at the Vrškovský municipal pond in Libišany.
