Lipoltice: Hotels and accommodations

The oldest structure in Lipoltice is the early Gothic Church of St. Matthew, built around 1280.

Church and history

The Church of St. Matthew complex is enclosed by the oval wall of a former cemetery. It lies south of the center of Lipoltice on a gentle slope descending toward the north and west, and is accessible through a gate on its western side.

The history of Lipoltice also includes the fortress: it is first mentioned in 1486, recorded as existing in 1509, and described as abandoned in 1544.

Geology

Lipoltická skála is a quartzite outcrop rising above the surrounding schists. The rock formation is located near Lipoltice at an elevation of 298 m above sea level.

The geological locality “Lipoltice – Cambrian” is Geotope No. 10 of the Železné hory National Geopark. Alternating layers of gray quartz sandstones and gray to gray-black chlorite-sericite schists containing graphite are exposed there. The locality is freely accessible; by car, it can be reached to within 250 m.

Events

A large number of events take place in Lipoltice every year. Recurring annual events include balls, carnival, the Witches’ Night bonfire, Children’s Day, and the switching on of the Christmas tree lights.
