Kunčina: Hotels and Accommodation

Kunčina showcases several clearly distinct features: sacred architecture in St. George’s Church, cultural monuments in front of the church, the Hřebečské důlní stezky with a lookout tower and mines, and the Pod skálou geological site.

Culture and History

St. George’s Church in Kunčina is a single-nave building with a Renaissance barrel vault, a wooden gallery, and a Late Gothic portal in the tower. Inside there is a Late Renaissance relief of St. George dating from the end of the 16th century. The furnishings also include a Stations of the Cross in the Rococo style.

In front of St. George’s Church, a Baroque sculptural group commemorates the plague epidemic of 1715 and other disasters that affected Kunčina and Nová Ves. It comprises twelve statues of saints on a terrace enclosed by a balustrade, as well as four additional statues of saints on columns. The balustrade with the Baroque statues in front of St. George’s Church in Kunčina and the Calvary group are registered as immovable cultural monuments. The Calvary group near the Baroque balustrade in front of St. George’s Church in Kunčina is also registered as an immovable cultural monument.

In Nová Ves, the Church of St. Roch dates from 1857; in front of it stands a stone Calvary group from 1862. The church’s main altar contains an early Baroque painting of St. Roch and St. Sebastian from the second half of the 17th century.

Trails and Views

The Hřebečské důlní stezky feature 22 educational stations, 40 signposts, eight starting points, and six rest areas. Together, they form a 70-kilometre network of educational trails suitable for pedestrians and cyclists. The trails lead to the Strážný vrch lookout tower, the tourist shelters on Mladějovský vrch and U vysílače, and several mines in the area.

The freely accessible Strážný vrch lookout tower is located in the woods. The easiest way to reach it is from the Kunčina, Nová Ves, točna bus stop via the Hřebečské důlní stezky, a distance of 2.5 km. From there, views extend over the northern part of the Boskovická brázda with Moravská Třebová and the Pastýřka lookout tower, the Zábřežská vrchovina with the lookout tower on Lázka, Podorlicko with Lanškroun, parts of the Orlické Mountains with Suchý vrch and Buková hora, and, in good visibility, Králický Sněžník.

Nature

The Pod skálou geological site can be reached from the road via a walkable tourist trail and lies more than 250 metres from the road. The site is home to natural populations of European yew in beech stands, as well as an abundant occurrence of rare thermophilic plants on exposed rock outcrops.
