Žichovice: Hotels and Accommodation

Žichovice lies on the right bank of the Otava River. Immediately beyond the village, the Otava Cycling Route follows the river on a paved, traffic-free section all the way to the lime works near Velké Hydčice.

Culture and History

The Dolní Bridge is an old stone road bridge with two segmental arches and probably dates back to the early 17th century. It crosses the stream on the road towards Rabí. The Horní Bridge is a partially preserved stone bridge with two arches and nearly semicircular vaults. It probably dates from the 18th century and was supplemented by a modern structure in the mid-20th century; it crosses the stream towards the České dráhy railway station.

The Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk originally stood on the bridge to Žichovice Castle. After the flood of 1890, it was placed in front of the bridge and later, in 1912, in front of the castle.

Žichovice Castle is not open to the public, but it can at least be viewed from the castle park. The Baroque sundials of Žichovice are located on the south side of the castle’s north wing. They date from approximately 1888; access to the sundials from the path around the castle is unrestricted.

The Chapel of Saint Aloysius stands in the centre of Žichovice. Before its consecration on 16 June 1861, it had stood unfinished for 40 years.
