Tužice: Hotels and accommodations

In Tužice, the breaking and processing of stone are part of the area’s historical and present-day tradition. Stoneworking began in 1910, when the stonemason Matěj Šolar built a house in Tužice and began quarrying stone in the Chvalici Forest.

History and townscape

The oldest officially confirmed written mention of Tužice dates from 1361. A land register from 1600 records, among others, the estates of Buršovský, Bartíkovský, Deblovský, Janský, Holubovský, Klobasovský, Pruškovský, Tůmovský, Nových, Vlkovských and Krteckýho, as well as the three cottages Hudcovská, Ševcovská and Řahovská. The oldest entry in the land register of the Nalžov estate concerns the Tužice inn and dates from 1767.

The chapel dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is part of the central area of Tužice, which is characterized by lime trees. At Velhartice Castle, both the castle and chateau interiors are currently open to visitors.

Stone and geology

Medium-grained, dark-grey granodiorite is quarried at the Tužice quarry; it is used to produce paving cubes, kerbstones, masonry stone, rubble stone, garden features and gravel. The Tužice quarry focuses exclusively on rough stone processing. The Tužice Quarry (Vlčí hora) is registered by the Czech Geological Survey as an interesting geological locality.

The Tužice quarry is a granodiorite quarry with a wall up to 45 metres high and excavation benches 15 to 18 metres high. It is also an active quarry containing blue-grey, medium-grained hornblende-biotite granodiorite.

Trails and nature

The road network in Tužice includes roads I/22 and III/02213, as well as a network of local roads. No marked hiking or cycling routes pass through the Tužice planning area. An entry permit is required to drive to the Tužice quarry.

The Hnačov circular trail runs around the largest recreational pond in the Klatovy District and is also suitable for families with small children. From the centre of Nalžovské Hory, the blue hiking trail leads to Prašivice; the route is approximately 2 km long. The area around Tužice is suitable for picking mushrooms and wild berries.
