Zborovy: Hotels and Accommodations

In Zborovy, a protected ecclesiastical ensemble combines with traces of medieval settlement and an open landscape. The protected complex of the Church of Saint John the Baptist comprises the church, a mortuary chapel, a bell tower, and the associated grounds.

Culture and History

The Church of Saint John the Baptist in Zborovy was originally built as a Romanesque rotunda around the middle of the 13th century. An original Romanesque window with a semicircular arch has been preserved in the northern wall of its presbytery, above the roof of the sacristy.

About 1 km northeast of Zborovy, the wooded Hrádek hill is home to the preserved stone ramparts of a former Slavic hillfort dating from around the 10th century. A medieval castle later stood on the site of the Hrádek Slavic hillfort. South of Štipoklasy, in the direction of Zborovy, the wooded summit of Hrádek is also home to the remains of a listed Slavic hillfort from the late hillfort period, with preserved ramparts and a ditch.

Other local monuments in Zborovy include a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. The wayside shrine or column shrine “Zborovy boží muka na návsi” is a carefully crafted column shrine made of locally sourced coarse-grained granite, assembled from four parts.

Location and Landscape

Zborovy lies near Route 22, which connects Klatovy, Horažďovice, and Strakonice. The village is situated in a broad valley with a stream along the road from Pačejov to Plánice.

The surroundings of Zborovy consist mainly of pastures, with occasional copses or groups of shrubs.
