Klatovy: Hotels and Accommodation

The catacombs of Klatovy lie beneath the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary and St. Ignatius and the Jesuit gymnasium. They were built between 1656 and 1676 as a burial place for members of the Jesuit order and their benefactors.

Culture and History

Construction of the Jesuit Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary and St. Ignatius in Klatovy began in 1656. The master builders were Dominik Orsi and Carlo Lurago.

The Klatovy Glass Pavilion is located in the gardens next to the Dr. Hostaš Museum of Local History in Klatovy. It houses more than 500 exhibits and is considered the largest publicly accessible collection of products from the Lötz glassworks in Europe.

A permanent exhibition entitled “The History of the Klatovy Region” has been established at the Dr. Hostaš Museum of Local History. Klatovy has also been associated with the tradition of carnation cultivation since the 19th century.

Events

The International Folklore Festival in Klatovy takes place annually on the second weekend of July and features around 20 folklore performances. The festival includes a craft market and a pilgrimage market; admission to the entire event is free.

Trails and Views

The educational trail at the Černá věž is steep, includes many stairs and a considerable change in elevation, and offers six stops focusing on the history of Klatovy’s best-known monument.

The Klatovský vycházkový okruh is a 12 km circular trail that can also be walked in sections. It can be started at any point.

In Hůrka Forest Park, the viewpoint behind St. Martin’s Church and the lookout tower built in place of St. Anne’s Chapel offer beautiful views of part of the Bohemian Forest. Hůrka Forest Park in Klatovy is suitable for walking, relaxation and sports activities.
