Horní Kozolupy was first mentioned in 1237 in connection with the local nobleman Šuchta of Kozolupy.

History

The former Gothic parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Horní Kozolupy has been documented since the 14th century. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Church of St. Peter and Paul was the only parish church in the Cebiv estate. It also served as the burial place of the noble owners of the estate. After two fires in 1947, the church was demolished in 1950.

Horní Kozolupy later came under the rule of the Lords of Gutštejn; in the 16th and 17th centuries, the village was affiliated with nearby Cebiv and subsequently became permanently part of the Bezdružice estate.

Culture

Slavice is also home to historical landmarks. The Church of St. Lawrence has been documented there since the second half of the 14th century, while the present building dates from 1767. On the road to Horní Kozolupy, a Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows from 1822 stands beneath linden trees in Slavice.

The remains of the Slavice fortress disappeared around 1820 during the reconstruction of the château and the construction of a new farmyard. The château grounds include a château building, a granary, a garden, a gate with a wicket gate, and a stone baptismal font.

Cycling

The 80-kilometre Kosí potok cycling route runs through the Hadovka valley, then reaches Horní Kozolupy and continues through the village. The marked 18.3-kilometre cycling route 2215 runs from Trpísty via Cebiv and Horní Kozolupy to Černošín. There is also the 31.5-kilometre circular route “K vodě dvakrát přes Hadovku”, which runs through Strahov, Horní Kozolupy and Slavice. In addition, the Plzeň–Aš stage runs from Slavice via Horní Kozolupy to Strahov.

Landscape and Nature

The Viči hora and Sténský vrch mountains are located in the vicinity of Horní Kozolupy. Nearby are the Ovčínská výšina hill [Horní Kozolupy-Očín] and the Zářečí hill [Cebiv]. The Úterský potok Nature Park is also located nearby.

Further afield in the region lies Nový Dvůr Monastery. At the “U silnice” settlement, about 2 kilometres west of Horní Kozolupy, there are two protected linden trees.
